My mom and I continue to stay home most days. And are just venturing out for her appointments or to pick up a few groceries. This is due to the continued restrictive social interaction recommendations in our state.

How are you doing? Have you been able to have playdates with your friends yet? My mom and I are missing the visits with our friends and going out to lunch together. We are adjusting to the new norm. But it is taking some time. How about you?

Over the years my mom has done a variety of different crafts. And sewing projects. She enjoys creating things. Especially if they are unique and different.

This is a wall hanging that my mom made while she was on the waiting list to get a service dog from Canine Companions for Independence. It was a long wait but she told me it was worth it because she got me!

Recently she found a tutorial on how to make a paracord dog bone. This can be used as a zipper pull or key chain. She has enjoyed making these. But does find it challenging since her hands are weaker and don’t work as well as they used to.

Paracord dog bone!

My mom says that sometimes you have to push yourself. And do things that are hard or challenging. Like I’ve told you before, she has a stick-to-it attitude. Which means she doesn’t give up easily!

Did you know that even with all of the training I have had as a service dog I still have times when I need to do things that I find hard or challenging? One part of my work that I find a bit challenging is working in tight spaces.

My mom has worked with me and done a variety of training exercises that have helped me feel more comfortable. And do the things that sometimes feel hard or challenging. Like squeezing into those tight spots.

So, when I have to navigate a tight area to reach an item my mom dropped or to reach an automatic door button to push, my mom always gives me encouraging words. And tells me to be brave! This reminds me that I am safe and I can do the task.

This week my mom has been making some of those paracord dog bones. Since my mom was doing crafts I wanted to do something, too. So I asked her if we could try painting.

A few of the Paracord dog bones that my mom made!

Do you remember that I told you about dogs who paint in my Color me! post? And that someday I wanted to try painting? Well, I didn’t get to paint because my mom hasn’t had a chance to get me a paintbrush and paints. But I did get to use markers and draw a picture for you!

My first drawing!

I think I need a lot more practice with my drawing since this just looks like a bunch of scribbles to me. But my mom thought I did a great job for my first attempt. She even said she thought it should be framed because it was my very first drawing!

Since my mom and I are spending so much of our time at home we have been trying to keep busy. And are trying to find fun and different things to do. Do you like trying new things and being creative? Maybe you could draw or paint a picture of me!
